The AFC is much tighter than the NFC coming into the last few weeks of the season. Many teams could still make the playoffs, and there are lots of divisional games where seasons could be decided. It’s going to be an exciting time for fans and sports bettors alike.

Divisional Leaders

Kansas City Chiefs

Remember when the Chiefs were having a bad season? That didn’t last long. There are still question marks around this team as the quality of opponents in its seven-game unbeaten run hasn’t been the highest. Patrick Mahomes looks like he is getting back to his best. With Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill to aim for, that’s scary. 

New England Patriots

Eyebrows were raised when Bill Belichick led an uncharacteristic and expensive off-season overhaul of his team. There were also questions over drafting Mac Jones as the team’s QB. A seven-game winning run certainly answered those questions. Even if the team fails to win the division, its reasonably easy schedule should see it earn a wildcard spot. 

Tennessee Titans

The Titans’ season feels like it’s been in limbo since star running back Derrick Henry’s injury. The six-game winning streak feels distant, but this talented team should pull itself over the line. If Henry doesn’t recover for the playoffs, not many will fancy the Titans to progress very far. 

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are currently leading the tight AFC North division. That means its postseason fate is in its own hands. QB Joe Burrow has had a good year, enjoying linking up with wide receiver Ja’marr Chase. Bengals fans will hope their collegiate connection will be enough to get them through challenging divisional games. 

Wildcard Places

Indianapolis Colts

You know what the Colts are going to do every game. Carson Wentz will hand the ball to Johnathan Taylor, and he’s going to run. Yet, no one has been able to stop the running back. With Taylor firing on all cylinders, the Colts may push to win the division. Not many teams will fancy meeting the Indiana side in the postseason. 

Los Angeles Chargers

It’s unlikely the Chargers overtake the Chiefs in the coming weeks, but the side should confirm its wildcard spot. Two of its three remaining games, against the Houston Texans and the Las Vegas Raiders, are very winnable. With Justin Herbert slinging to elite targets like Keenan Allen, a good wager may be on the Chargers to take the top wildcard spot.  

Buffalo Bills

This season, the Bills have been a little inconsistent, beating the Chiefs and losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars. It still has a chance to finish top of its division, with a game against the Patriots on the horizon. If the team can play to the full potential of its players like Josh Allen and Steffon Diggs, the team may win out the season.

In the Hunt

Baltimore Ravens

Many of the team’s games have come right down to the wire this season. We expect its playoffs hopes to be much the same. If Lamar Jackson is fit and playing, we back the star quarterback to help Ravens overcome AFC rivals in its last three games. The Steelers, Rams, and Bengals look like tough games if Tyler Huntley plays. 

Cleveland Browns

If the Browns don’t make the playoffs, there will be questioned raised about Baker Mayfield. This year, the QB has been performing very averagely. Running back Nick Chubb continues to be the team’s star. The Browns have two divisional games left. If the Ravens falter, this side could actually top the AFC North. It will have to also win its game against the Packers, which is a tough ask. The odds will be generous, and wagering on the Browns to top its division may prove a smart move. 

Pittsburgh Steelers

Whatever happens for the rest of the season, it’s clear the Steelers need to move on from Ben Roethlisberger. The veteran QB has been decent this season, but his fading athleticism hinders his team. It’s a pretty grueling stretch for the Steelers until the end of the season, playing the Chiefs, Browns, and Ravens. Fans and bettors shouldn’t be too optimistic about this side reaching a wildcard spot. 

Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins were a mess earlier this season. Repeated injuries to Tua Tagovailoa hindered the side, but why was the team was so poor after what appeared to be a good off-season? After some good results, the Dolphins have an outside chance of making the playoffs. Fixtures against three teams all fighting to appear in the postseason won’t help. We wouldn’t be placing too much money on the Dolphins to make it.
