Twitter Now Linked to Sports Betting Markets

Twitter Now Linked to Sports Betting Markets

While it is suggestive that the social media giant is trying to penetrate the USA sports betting market, the facts speak for themselves. Indeed, its crusade over the years, as seen in its active involvement in the NFL and college football engagement is noteworthy. It has transcended from the live streaming of games to seeking sports partnerships and related contracts even in recent times.

Remarkably, experts claim that there is a significant uptick in its football engagement, and it is expected that this factor would stimulate Twitter’s monetization efforts. According to a stat made available by Front Office Sports, there has been a significant increase (specifically 11% from the previous 2020 data) in the number of tweets per game on the NFL, while college football tweets have also gone up by 35%.

In the same vein, there has been a significant 22% upturn on tweets posted about football betting, while tweets on fantasy football have gone up by 11%. All these points to Twitter’s subtle move to spread its tentacles on the sports betting market. David Herman affirmed this point by stating expressly that Twitter is strategically positioned to leverage on this development, even as more states in the US legalize sports betting.

According to the foremost news outlet, he said that “more and more conversation and happenings are unfolding every single day in the world of sports betting and he thinks that Twitter as a media platform falls within the ambit of these conversations and happenings”. In his words, he proclaimed “we are live, we are real-time, and that is what betting is all about”.

Going further, the executive asserted that betting has always been the foundation of sports tweets on Twitter. He is optimistic that as sports betting expands into more states, the frontiers of mainstream criticism would be broken; thus, giving rise to the proliferation of more sports brands with an active presence on the social media platform. He also affirmed the willingness of popular leagues to collaborate with these brands so that sports betting can get wider coverage.

In recent times, Twitter has been seen brokering unofficial deals with major sports bookies, including BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKing. However, the social media brand is yet to officialize its engagement to become an official betting partner. The implication of this is that users of the platform would be able to wager directly on specified sports events. Still, according to Front Office Sport, Mr. Herman averred that “Twitter is on the lookout for novel ways of enhancing sports betting experience for its users.”

Evidently, the progress recorded by Twitter in NFL and betting engagements can be associated with its transition from being a full-game streamer to partnering unofficially with sports bookies. It is no wonder that there was a significant increase in its advertising revenue totaling up to $1.14 billion, a whopping 41% increase recorded in its third-quarter earnings report. This was bigger and better than what it gained in 2020.

Its exotic streaming deals include live NHL and MLB games and the popular NFL Thursday Night Football Package. Even the social media giant has brokered a deal with mainstream media outlets like Fox News. On one of its streaming, viewers were allowed to select camera angles for a better view through a fan poll conducted during the game’s first five minutes.

Twitter’s interactivity and engagement have paid off as 51% of sports videos watched on the platform for August and September are NFL games. Owing to this, a noticeable 211 million, a 13% increase, joined Twitter’s monetizable daily active users. This is also bigger than what was obtainable in 2020.

Lastly, it’s a surety that Twitter is spreading its wings in the sports industry through Twitter Spaces, a section committed to sports betting and gambling sports. It features audio chats, which many sports fans have adopted as podcasts. Twitter Spaces is indeed a viable platform for the discussion of sports, gambling inclusive.
