Women’s March Madness Tournament Predictions
In the first rounds of the NCAA Women’s Tournament, we saw future WNBA stars in the making like Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark, and Rhyne Howard emerge, and put on stunning performances.
In what was one of the most exciting spectacles in women’s sports, we saw NCAA powerhouse programs like UConn, Stanford, and South Carolina punch their way into the Sweet 16.
Meanwhile, teams like UCLA, Kentucky, and Tennessee saw their season cut short in devastating fashion.
With the Sweet 16 now set, it’s time to break down which teams carry the greatest odds to win the whole thing!
ALAMO
- Stanford vs. 5. Missouri State
Pick: Stanford
- Louisville vs. 6. Oregon
Pick: Louisville
Stanford has set the tone for the Alamo region, and they carry the best odds to cut down the nets as we move into the round of the Sweet 16. Louisville is going up against a tough Oregon team, but whichever team emerges to face Stanford will likely see their season cut short. Feel confident wagering on Stanford, as they may not see any real competition until they meet UConn in the Championship game.
HEMISFAIR
- South Carolina vs. 5. Georgia Tech
Pick: South Carolina
- Maryland vs. 6. Texas
Pick: Maryland
South Carolina has been a force all season long, locking up the top seed in the Hemisfair region and blistering past competition with one of the country’s best offenses. As impressive as Georgia Tech has been, they are going up against a juggernaut in South Carolina. Maryland should handle Texas no problem, but a matchup with South Carolina will be tough to predict. While it’s undoubtedly going to be close, I’m ready to go all-in on the Gamecocks!
RIVERWALK
- UConn vs. 5. Iowa
Pick: UConn
- Baylor vs. 6. Michigan
Pick: Michigan
This game will feature two young college basketball stars in Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark. UConn and Iowa present two of the more fundamentally sound yet versatile groups in the tournament. But betting against UConn seems beyond foolish. Michigan saw their Women’s team accomplish tremendous things in 2021, not the least of which was moving up to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history. Whether Baylor or Michigan comes out of the other side is irrelevant, UConn is the team to beat once again.
MERCADO
- NC State vs. 4. Indiana
Pick: N.C. State
- Texas A&M vs. 3. Arizona
Pick: Texas A&M
Indiana returns to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1983 but is going up against a resilient N.C. State pack. However, they are likely to be the weakest of the 1 seeds, N.C. State should still be considered the favorites coming from the Mercado region. Texas A&M and Arizona are two extremely competitive teams facing off in a battle that should come down to the wire. Whoever emerges victorious likely won’t have much left in the tank as they try to take down the red-hot Wolfpack.
FINAL FOUR
Stanford VS. NC State
Pick: Stanford
UConn VS. South Carolina
Pick: UConn
By the time both N.C. State and South Carolina make it out of their challenging regions; they will struggle to match up with the talent and depth that both Stanford and UConn carry.
A Championship Game between the Huskies and Cardinals seems inevitable.
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Stanford vs. UConn
Pick: UConn
Stanford has probably been the strongest team in the competition and has been one of the more consistent teams all year.
Still, it feels like a safe bet nearly every year to go all-in on UConn.
