About PointsBet

PointsBet Sportsbook was launched in Australia in 2017, and established itself Down Under as a unique sportsbook in the Australian market. As its name states, PointsBet specializes in points betting, whereas unlike fixed odds where your winning/losses are set, your winnings (or losses) will vary based on how close your prediction is to the outcome.
Points betting in Australia has proven to be a hit, and with many worldwide markets to bet on, attractive promotions and top-rated customer service, PointsBet was very soon proven to be a huge success in Australia, and took its success to more markets around the world.

In 2019, PointsBet decided to capitalize further on its success and in order to fuel growth, went public and is now traded in the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX).

PointsBet in the US Market

In 2018, PointsBet entered the New Jersey regulated sports-betting market under a partnership with Meadowlands Racetrack. With a whole new way of betting that makes things all the more exciting, elegant design, fantastic promotions and great customer service; PointsBet is an experienced sportsbook operator that has established itself outside of the US and now brings a new standard of experience and innovation to the legal American sports-betting market.
PointsBet is looking to expand further in the US, and it seems as if New Jersey is only the start of its American expansion. The company already made it’s a debut in Iowa, is waiting for license approval in West Virginia, Illinois and Indiana, and last month also formed a partnership with casino operator Penn National Gaming.

Trust and Reliability

PointsBet is a well-established household name in Australia, a publically-listed company, and is now undergoing rigours licensing processes in the US that will increase PointsBet’s presence to 10 states. In addition, PointsBet won many acclaims for its “Good Karma Payouts” practice, where PointsBet pays customers for bets that were lost due to unusual or unfair circumstances. PointsBet was nominated in 2019 for a Hashtag Sports Award for this campaign. So as far as trust and reliability, PointsBet ticks all boxes, and even goes above and beyond.

PointBet Betting Markets

One of PointBet’s claims to fame is all the sports markets it has available for sports-betting punters, both with local sports, as well as worldwide leagues, competitions and events. And if you are into major American sports, Australian sports, international leagues or all of the above, PointsBet has you covered!

The following markets are included in the BetPoint site and mobile sports-betting app:

Although some coverage of niche markets and some regional leagues and competitions weren’t covered as much on PointsBet as on other New Jersey sportsbooks, all the major leagues and interesting sports events are covered. And with PointsBet’s points betting, there are many exciting and interesting options to bet on. So we are sure you will find the right bets for you on the points bet site or mobile app.

PointsBet Bet Types

As written above, the Points Betting system is one of the highlights on the PointsBet sports betting app, and makes this app all the more exciting compared to other sports betting app in the market.
In addition, there are many more options for punters on which type of bets to place on the PointsBet site, as well as their sports-betting app. Starting with the classic Fixed Odds betting, there is also the Point Spread betting which the most popular amongst American punters. PointsBet offers Spread Betting on nearly all events, often with better odds than the competition. The PointsBet website and sports-betting app also offers Moneyline Betting on most events this sportsbook has to offer.
There are more exciting ways to place your bets with PointsBet, like Parlays, Prop bets (PointsBet are one of the bigger, if not biggest for Prop betting on NFL and NBA markets), Over/Under and Future Bets and more.
Again we did find that some types of bets weren’t available at PointsBet (such as Teasers and Round Robins), and more of the betting options aren’t available for some of the smaller markets, but all in all, there is a huge selection and we are sure that everyone will find their bets to place.

PointsBet Rewards

The PointsBet loyalty program enables you to collect points on wagers, and what’s great is that punters earn points whether they win or lose. You will earn the following for each type of betting:

You can redeem points for free bets, where 100 Reward Points will get you $1-worth of free betting. Given the high volatility of Points Betting, we found that win or lose: Reward Points rack up very quickly. So compared to other New Jersey online sportsbooks, PointsBet Rewards program is very attractive.

Design and Usability

PointsBet design is very sophisticated and polished. The black, minimalistic design lets you focus on what is important, which is the betting itself, as opposed to all the bells and whistles we found on other New Jersey online sportsbooks. Featured bets are presented from different competitions and sports, with an Up Next section on the left that provides you with the up-coming events.
The promotions images slide in the background, and blend into the PointsBet site, as opposed to huge, colorful banners that shout for attention on many New Jersey sports-betting sites. Menus were replaced by sliders that also give information on different promos, which is very subtle and lets you concentrate on bets.
From a usability perspective, a menu button on the top left, with some more useful links at the bottom of the PointsBet site provides options and important information needed such as Help and Promos. Still, it was difficult to find more dedicated items such as Banking and Loyalty sections. Also, before logging in it is hard to search for specific markets and bets.
Overall, we did love the modern and innovative design of PointsBet, but also found that at times the usability was compromised for the style.

PointsBet Mobile Site and App

We are happy to report that the minimalistic, clean and innovative design and usability of the PointsBet website actually transcends to the mobile sports-betting clients in a perfect way. This makes the choice of placing your bets on PointsBet mobile a great sports-betting experience, at times a superior experience than on than the PointsBet main website.
PointsBet offers a mobile-customized browser sportsbook, which enables you to access PointsBet on any smartphone and mobile device, as well as native sports-betting apps for both iOS, to be used on iPod and iPhones, and Android for any Android phone or device.
Features have been transferred to the points bet mobile site and app, and all functionalities seem to be perfectly in place and easy to access, even on the small screens we had tested. Connections were stable and we didn’t really have any issues placing bets, even near or during events.
We really loved the PointsBet mobile version, and mobile sports-betting app, to the point that some of us found them more usable and handy than the PointsBet main website.

PointsBet Banking

As mentioned above, it was difficult to find a section for banking that explains all the terms and payment methods available for deposits and withdrawals. The information is hidden in the Help section.
Deposit and withdrawals methods available at PointsBet are:

  • Bank ACH
  • E-Check
  • Visa/MasterCard
  • Bank Transfer
  • Cash at cage –Meadowlands Racetrack
  • PointsBet Prepai MasterCard

Although PointsBet currently offers a limited amount of payment solutions compared to other New Jersey sportsbooks, there is still more than enough options to choose from.

PointsBet Support

PointsBet’s Customer Support reps were very helpful with every issue we had. Support is available 24/7 and the team can be reached through email, phone and live chat on the PointsBet website.

Final Thoughts on PointsBet

PointsBet provides a great, new and exciting way to bet on sports. Although you need to keep in mind that Points Betting is volatile, so as much as you can win big, you can lose big as well. We really liked the new and innovative experience that PointsBet brings to the New Jersey sportsbook market.
