Illinois Lawmakers Rethinking Sports Betting Bill to Allow Online Registration

Lawmakers in Illinois are thinking of coming up with legislation that would pave the way for the online registration of sportsbooks in the state. It comes just after Gov. J.B. Pritzker prohibited online registration last weekend, leaving the state’s operators with the less desirable in-person registration requirement.

Illinois is seen as one of the biggest potential markets for online sports betting in the nation, and prohibiting online registration, especially during the pandemic, raises significant concerns.

Iowa Sports Betting Soars In January

Iowa’s betting activity was driven to a monthly record, with wagers of $149.5 million for January. This is the second month in a row where legal sports betting topped the wagers of $100 million in Iowa and the fourth consecutive month for record-setting growth.

The wagering activity in January resulted in net sportsbook receipts of $11.3 million and $765,673 in state taxes.
